Due to the covid pandemic, the boys varsity and frosh-soph basketball season reflected a "league-only" (no preseason games) schedule that began with the 1st official practice on 4/5/2021 and the 1st official "league-game" on 4/21/21.

The boys varsity program opened league play with a perfect 7-0 record before suffering their first loss to Gunn HS 64-55 just two days after beating the same Gunn team, 50-33.  From their, the varsity team finished league play with an  8-2 record, capturing the SCVAL El Camino league championship, and went 2-0 in a cross-league "back-to-back" game series vs SCVAL De Anza division team, Milpitas HS.

The Chargers opened up the CCS Division 2 playoffs as a #6 seed, hosting the Leland Chargers, enroute to a 59-51 win to advance to a quarterfinal game at Hillsdale HS in San Mateo.  Wilcox pulled out a 4-point 60-56 win and advanced to the CCS semifinal round at the #2 seeded Pioneer HS who boasted an impressive 12 wins to 1 loss record. The Chargers battled the Pioneer Mustangs to a "come-from-behind" 4-point win, 58-54.  With the CCS semifinal win, Wilcox advanced to the Division 2 Championship game for their first time in Wilcox boys basketball history against private school powerhouse, the St. Francis Lancers.  Despite a 15 point loss in the championship, the Chargers team missed a total of 15 freethrows and out-scored St Francis 26-22 in the second half for a strong finish.  Players that are expected to return for the 2021-2022 "winter sports" season include Mohan Panwar, Chris Sargent, Dylan Diashyn, Minh Tran and Pace Nelson, along with "up-and-coming" Frosh Soph standouts Emil Urquidez, Rylan Chang, Miles Bonilla, Juan Ruezga, Troy Pham and Paulie Majoulet.

2019-2020 season wrap-up

During the 2019-2020 season the boys varsity program finished 15-11.  After opening preseason with three straight losses by a combined total 5 points and a 6-8 preseason, the varsity team started out 6-0 in league play, ending with a 9-3 league record, earning a 2nd place finish.  Standout league play by senior point guard Brendon Yi and senior guard Prat Sharma earned 1st Team SCVAL El Camino league honors, and senior guard Jonathan Chang was an Honorable Mention Selection.  Junior guard Isaiah Frazier also earned league honors with his game-impacting presence as a 2nd Team SCVAL El Camino selection.

As a result of the team’s 2nd place finish in SCVAL El Camino league play, Wilcox qualified for the CCS Division II Playoffs, for the fifth consecutive season since the 2015-2016 season, as the #9 seed in the 2nd round on the road at Pioneer High School.  With an exciting 53-37 win, they traveled to San Mateo to take on the CCS Division II’s #1 seed Hillsdale High in a Quarterfinal matchup, only to lose by two at the buzzer.  Hillsdale went on to win the D2 CCS Championship by an average margin of almost 10 points over the next two games and went on to advance to the 2nd round of the state tournament.

Players that are expected to return for the 2020-2021 season  include Isaiah Frazier, Solomon Berhane, Vince Burkes, Armaan Agah, Deandel Laureta and Torrin Ley, along with up-and-coming Frosh Soph standouts Chris Sargent, Pace Nelson and Jace Chang.  Expectations are high for another exciting season!

The Charger Frosh Soph team finished 9-15 overall, and 4-8 during league.  Sophomore players to watch transition to varsity for their 2021 debut will be Chris Sargent, Pace Nelson, Jace Chang, Dylan Diashyn and possibly freshman Mohan Panwar.

2018-2019 season wrap-up

"Congratulations to the 2018-2019 Wilcox High School Varsity Boys Basketball team on their SCVAL El Camino League Co-Championship!  They finished league play with an impressive  11-1 league record, 16-8 overall, and another CIF Central Coast Section post-season tournament playoff berth for the fourth consecutive season since Coach Toloy took over the program in June 2015-2016 season.

Four Wilcox Chargers received All-league Honors.  Senior guard Devin Baddo’s consistent end of game scores, relentlessly attacking the basket and solid defensive pressure throughout league play earned him a Co-Most Valuable Player selection.  Other Charger players that received El Camino league honors included junior guard Brendon Li, a unanimous 1st Team All-League pick, along with seniors Matt Galang and John Kalkhan, both honored with 2nd Team All-league selection.

Moving forward into our upcoming 2019-2020 season within the El Camino league for a second consecutive season, there is a renewed excitement with the new talent and returning players.  “If our summer league progress and development was any indication of what to expect along with building on last season’s success, we have much to look forward to”, says Coach Toloy.

Boys Basketball Conditioning for the varsity-level team will begin on Monday September 23rd, and the first official day of practice for both Varsity and Frosh Soph will be Monday November 4th.  The first official preseason game to start the 2019-2020 season will be Wednesday November 27 at Wilcox vs. the visiting Santa Teresa Saints with the Frosh-Soph opening at 5:30pm, followed by the Varsity game at 7pm."
