CSU Information

Seniors:Please carefully read the information below. There are some important changes and items to be aware of if you plan to apply to one of the 23 CSU campuses.

  • In the past, most CSU campuses, accepted SAT/ACT scores from the December test. This is NOT true for San Jose, East Bay, and many of the other CSU campuses this year. You must take the SAT by the November test date. The regular registration deadline for the October test date is in September for the November test date. Register at www.collegeboard.com

  • You MUST meet all deadlines for all the CSU campuses to be eligible for admission, NO EXCEPTIONS. Schools will be using their student portals (such as MySJSU) to convey information to you with a “To Do” list. Check them regularly.

  • The application window for CSU campuses is from October 1 through November 30. You should complete your application BEFORE Thanksgiving. If you have any problems and need to call a school, all campuses will be closed for break! Register online at www.csumentor.edu

  • This year there are MANY impacted campuses. This means that these campuses cannot accept all of the eligible students who met the admissions criteria. Go to CSU Mentor and individually research the schools you are planning on applying to. See back for how to calculate eligibility index.

  • All majors at San Jose State are impacted and not all eligible students will be accepted to SJSU (especially students out of the Santa Clara County area).

  • English Placement Test (EPT): You must take the English Placement Test (EPT) if you do NOT score 500 or higher on the SAT verbal section, a 22 on the ACT or pass the requirement through the EAP program (Essay and STAR testing taken in your junior year). See  www.csuenglishsuccess.org or www.calstate.edu/eap for help.

  • Entry Level Mathematics (ELM): You must take the Entry Level Mathematics tests (ELM) if you do NOT score 550 or higher on the SAT math section, 23 on the ACT or pass the requirement through STAR testing taken in your junior year. See www.csumathsuccess.org for help.

  • You must attend (and pay for) Freshman Orientation offered by the campus you will attend before signing up for classes. Before attending orientation, you must take and have scores for the English Placement Test (EPT) and Entry Level Mathematics (ELM), unless exempt. All EPT and ELM tests must be taken to remain eligible to attend college in the fall. If the (EPT) and (ELM) requirements have not been met yet, you may take these tests as early as November. The test may be taken at any CSU campus.

  • The CSU campuses require you to send an official copy of your SAT or ACT scores. Use code #3594 on College Board and it will automatically send your SAT scores to all 23 campuses. Many campuses want scores by December. Send scores immediately, even if you do not know which campus you are applying to.

  • If you want to apply for financial aid, you should also apply for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) while filling out your application.

  • All acceptance is PROVISIONAL and CONDITIONAL upon eligibility index (GPA and test scores) and transcript. Contact each campus you apply to before making any schedule changes during senior year.

  • On-campus dorms could be difficult at many schools. As soon as you have applied, get on the housing information lists. Do not wait to be accepted.

  • Financial Aid Night is in January. Look at School Loop Calendar for exact dates. You can apply for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on/after January 1. Both student AND one of your parents will need to apply for a PIN number in order to electronically sign the FAFSA. Do this BEFORE January 1 so that you can file your FAFSA as soon as possible. Get a PIN from www.pin.ed.gov.
