Group Counseling

Each year the counselors will make classroom presentations to all students in the Fall and in the Spring. The Fall presentation focuses on orientation and information specific to that grade level. High School graduation requirements, transcript evaluation, and college entrance requirements are reviewed, as well as information students need to facilitate their transition to the next grade level. Preparation for College and Career Training is also emphasized, and students are encouraged to begin their career planning using any of the Computer Programs available in the Career Center.

Each year in the Spring the counselors hold student and parent orientations for the incoming 9th grade class. This is our opportunity to share with the students and their parents all information we feel is relevant to a new student at Wilcox High School.

Throughout the year counselors meet with students in very small groups to discuss progress/grade reports, and short credit status. Report cards are mailed home to the parents at the end of each semester.

In addition to the groups already mentioned, the counselors put together a financial aid workshop. Juniors and Seniors have the opportunity to take the Armed Services Vocational Apptitude Battery Test (ASVAB) to assist them with career exploration.? Interpretation sessions are scheduled following the test.
