Community College Night Power Point

Attached is the power point that we used last night for our community college night.  If you should have any questions you may reach out to your students counselor or call Ms. Yee in the College and Career Center. 

 

Dates have been schedule for students to attend application workshop, assessment testing and orientations.  Please have your student check with Ms. Yee for more information regarding these dates.

 

Community College Talking Points 2018

Community College Night at Wilcox – 2/28/2018

·       Encourage all students to attend

·       Encourage all students to attend and bring parent with them

·       Different community colleges have different programs:

o   Use Tri-Fold for information

All Community Colleges:

·       Application opened on February 1st

·       Application Workshop February 15 In Math Lab 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM

·       FAFSA Due Date March 2nd

·       Encourage students to visit community college campuses to choose the right fit

Mission College:

·       Assessment Test Date:  March 14th 9:00 - 12:00 PM Science Lecture Hall

·       Open House:  Saturday April 14th

·       Orientation:  Sign up for a date online after you have taken the assessment test

·       Registration for class dates will be given during orientation.

·       Sign up in the College and Career Center  

·       $1,000 Scholarship for attending Wilcox High School

De Anza College:

·       Assessment Test Date:  March 29th 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM Math Lab

·       Orientation: April 12th 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM Math Lab

·       Sign up in the College and Career Center

West Valley College:

·       Assessment Test Date:  April 5th Math Lab 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

·       Orientation:  After you take the assessment test:

o   April 26

o   May 1st

o   May 9th

o   May 11th

o   May 12th

o   May 17th

·       All of the Orientation dates are school dates, students will be fed breakfast and lunch

·       All students will need to have the absence verified with attendance. (please show registration of orientation)

·       West Valley gives free tuition for 1 year and $600.00 in Book Scholarship for students who complete-assessment, orientation and create an educational plan

Foothill College

  • If we get fifteen students they will come out and do the assessment and orientation

  • Thursday march 1st 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM orientation workshop/ if needed an application workshop

  • Assessment and Educational Plan meeting will be scheduled if we enough students for the first part.  

  • Open House April 21st 11:00 Am - 1:00 PM

 

FASFA:  Due March 2nd.  Encourage students to fill out

·       It is possible that the Community Colleges will give first year students first year free

·       If this does not pass all of our local Colleges do have a plan for students.  When student attends orientation this will be discussed

·       In addition to FASFA for Community College only there is a BOG (Board of Governors Grant) this grant pays for fees only. (undocumented students can apply for the bog)

Final Transcripts

·       Students will be required to send a final transcript to the Community College

·       This will be done via Parchment.com

·       Make sure they have an account
